Lubambe Project Surmounts Difficulties to Implement Key Project

The five declines at Lubambe Copper Mine constructed by JCHX are partly completed with the rest busily in progress.

Development works of 1# and 2# decline at Lubambe Copper Mine were awarded to JCHX in last year with both completed in a timely manner. The successful completion of these two declines are critical to strengthening the production capacity and ramping up to full production for the Owner.

In view of the good quality and efficiency of JCHX, the Owner further extended the contract to the construction of 4# decline, after which mobilization was commenced right away. Unfortunately, the working area was flooded due to rainy season just when the works were about to be commenced.

The project management and technical personnel conducted an on-site inspection and found that the work face of 4# decline was full of water inflow mixed with mud and sand. A high-power water pump was borrowed from the Owner to address the problem and actions were taken proactively to avoid pump damages with designated personnel taking turns to supervise the pumping process.

To prevent the chassis from getting stuck during operation, underground dewatering, ditch construction and road cleaning were executed in a timely manner. Without input of new equipment, pumping system was improved by JCHX with innovation, staged water intercepting was executed to discharge water into the Owner’s sump. Through two-week hard work, the air, water and power systems of 4# decline were optimized and all preparations were done successfully.

On 9 July, the first blast was fired with great blasting performance, marking the successful commencement of 4# decline development. Subsequently JCHX was tasked to execute the development of 3# and 5# declines, where challenging conditions such as poor ground condition, FOG, water inflow were encountered. However, team on site redoubled its efforts to surmount existing difficulties to progress with the new tasks.
