Board Chairmen of Chalco and JCHX Inspected Pulang Project

Early spring’s Shangri-La Plateau enjoys sunny weather with melting snow. On the morning of March 16, before“the ceremony for the test run of first phase mining and dressing of Pulang Copper Mining Project”, Mr. Honglin Ge , Board Chairman of Chalco Group led a group to visit our Pulang Project, understand the progress of production and send greetings to the workers on the front line. Mr. Xiancheng Wang, Board Chairman of JCHX, also attended the ceremony and warmly welcome Mr. Ge and the delegation.

The test run on March 16 is a milestone for the Pulang Copper Mine Project, as it represents the tremendous contribution and outstanding achievement of JCHX and the project. At 11:00 in the morning, accompanied by Board Chairman Mr. Wang and Mr. Qingtian Gong,VP of JCHX and Mr. Chengzhou Wang, General Manager of JCHX South and Project Manager for Pulang Coppe Mine, Mr. Ge and the delegation went underground to inspect trackless drift at 3720ml which is under construction and saw the work progress as well as the mechanized operation.

Vehicles carrying leaders advanced smoothly along the wide, bright and clean roadway, which fully represents a modernized trackless operation. At the S1-E7 ore drawing access, a DU411 large-diameter drilling jumbo is in operation. This is the first and only unit of this model imported to China so far. A young and skillful operator trained by JCHX is maneuvering this beast with ease.

Board Chairman Wang and VP Gong introduced in details to Mr. Ge about the advanced features and working efficiency of this machine; at S1-E9 ore drawing accesses, the operating method and process of Simba1354 drilling jumbo were introduced to Mr. Ge and the delegation which attracted their full attention and intense interest. The visitors highly praised the precise skills of the operator.

At the work site of drift development for ore bins which represents the engineering quality of block caving method, Mr. Ge and delegation carefully listened to the debriefing from Board Chairman Wang. JCHX currently has completed 11 ore drawing transverse drifts and relevant ore drawing accesses, ore bins etc. on 3720ml, which consequently satisfied all requirements for production. After site inspection and briefings, Mr. Ge was very impressed and delighted, also has expressed his confidence in the closer cooperation with JCHX during the next phase and sooner achievement of target output.

Before the ceremony on March 16, Chairman Wang arrived in Pulang Project one day earlier to inspect the site with VP Gong, General Manager Wang and Deputy Manager Yang to understand the progress on 3720ml. In addition to the above mentioned major equipment, he also inspected substation chamber, ore drawing transver drift, backfilling process, blasting performance, lining and templates mounting processes and equipment, as well as ore drawing drift, then he gave certain instructions and proposed questions in this regard. After that Chairman Wang walked from 3720ml to 3736ml and inspected the undercut levels, understood the work progress therein. He also checked the operation status of mining production and gave comments and instructions on ore removals especially he required the work to be done in strict accordance to the technical requirements of block caving method.

In the same afternoon, Chairman Wang listened to the briefings of work in the conference room. Firstsly Deputy Chief Engineer Mr. Weiguo Xiao of JCHX South gave a report on technical situation of mining production, followed by a report on overall operation of Pulang Project presented by Mr. Junhua Yang, Deputy General Manager of the Project.

After the reports Chairman Wang delivered an important speech in which he fully recognized the achievements made in the past several years, praised Pulang Project for its leading role in trackless and mechanized operation. He also proposed several comments and expectations based on the inspection on site:

Firstly, remaining workload of capital works is still heavy, a timely transition into mining operation is needed, therefore things need to be done properly in a timely fashion; Secondly, production operation needs to be advanced as planned and responsibilities should be allocated to certain individuals; Thirdly, certain problems need to be solved with concrete solutions and reliable techniques in a step by step fashion to avoid haste; Fourthly, new equipment will be in place gradually, therefore the training of personnel need to catch up. Also plans need to be in place on better operating, servicing and maintaining these advanced equipment. With highly mechanized and automated operations, a higher threshold for management should be in place in order to build genuinely the first class mine in China; Fifthly, the soft power need to be strengthened, both in terms of corporate culture and ideological building. We are a family and we need to let our employees feel it. The leave and vacation policies need to be properly implemented. Resort for employees should be put into use sooner to mitigate the negative effect brought by the highland climate.

After Chairman Wang's speech, Mr. Chengzhou Wang requested all attendees to properly put Chairman’s expectation into practice and have them realized with the least delay possible.
