On February 3, a precise breakthrough was achieved between heavy duty ramp and auxiliary ramp of the capital development and underground construction project at Kamoya Copper & Cobalt Mine in the DRC. Management and employees from the Owner, the supervising company and the Project held a celebration ceremony with delight.
Under the great support of the Owner and the supervising company and the unremitting efforts of all employees of the Project, with 570 days and more of hard work, and after 1982m of blind heading of heavy duty ramp, the breakthrough was achieved with a total advancing of 5339m, including 4352m for main ramp and 987m for auxiliary ramp, with monthly blind heading reaching 169m which hits the record high of the Project.
In 2020, all employees worked together to surmount every difficulty and have made significant progresses in controlling and preventing pandemic and stabilizing production. Encountering complex construction problems such as weak surrounding rock and brecciated claystone during water control at karst and grouting at faults/fissures, the Project has implemented effective measures such as cover drilling, supporting, grouting and regular inspection, achieving the staged victory of the breakthrough.
During construction, the Project stays committed to observing strict and standard safety management regulation and no accident was happened, which were highly recognized by the Owner and the supervising company.
As a significant part of the entire Work, the breakthrough of the heavy duty ramp will promote working efficiency and improve vent and drainage conditions, which has laid a solid foundation for the implementation of future works.
In 2021, the Kamoya Project will still pay great attention to safety and quality, and make more progresses in fulfilling the yearly target.
