Recently, the teaching facilities of the vocational training school, meticulously planned, designed, and constructed over the course of a year by Sabwe Mining SARL, were officially inaugurated. The opening ceremony marks a substantial step for JCHX's overseas operations in terms of localized employment, cultivation of local talent, and fulfillment of social responsibilities.
Lonshi village in Sakania town, Lubumbashi city, Haut-Katanga province, DRC, where Sabwe is located, has a relatively low level of economic development and the local residents generally have limited access to education and low laboring skills. While enhancing its localized operations, Sabwe is committed to establishing a long-term mechanism for cultivating local talent. Through vocational training, it aims to develop young local employees into highly competent and qualified professionals.
The training school closely aligns its objectives with the mining and civil engineering needs of Lonshi Copper Mine, primarily focusing on standardized equipment operation training, including for drilling rigs, bolting jumbos, shotcreters, charging vehicles, LHDs, trucks, cranes, forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, rollers, and hoisting machines. Furthermore, training for key works such as welding, cutting, and electrical circuits will be also included in later stages. Adopting a "rotation training + talent reserve" model, the school conducts systematic training for new hires while organizing rotational training for incumbent employees, which strengthens and continuously optimizes the structure of the industrial workforce, enhances its overall quality, and simultaneously builds a human resource reserve for Lonshi Project's Phase II development and mining production. Adhering to the principle of "integrating theory with practice, with a focus on hands-on operation," the curriculum arranges for professional instructors to deliver theoretical lessons, guiding trainees to master fundamental theories such as equipment principles and safety protocols. Additionally, it provides ample practical opportunities, allowing participants to practice on actual equipment and in real-life scenarios, thereby transforming theoretical knowledge into practical operational skills.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lu Gang, representing the training instructors, stated, "At Sabwe Training School, we are not merely imparting skills, but aiming to build a ladder of growth for every motivated and capable local youth. We strive to ensure every trainee gains safety awareness, operational competence, and technical proficiency, thereby cultivating a talent reserve for the mine's safe production and efficient development." As a trainee representative, Kashala Lumbule Idriss expressed his commitment to cherishing this training opportunity and continuously honing his skills. He aims to contribute to the development of the Lonshi Copper Mine and JCHX while also improving the well-being of his family and contributing to local social progress through his dedicated efforts.
Zhou Genming, Vice President of JCHX Mining and General Manager of Sabwe, mentioned that the launch of the Sabwe Vocational Training School marks a new beginning and signifies a weighty responsibility. Vocational training is a key initiative to enhance employees' skills, strengthen safety awareness, and ensure efficient production. It is also an important pathway to promote Sabwe's localized development and build a high-quality workforce. In the future, Sabwe will continuously improve the training system and innovate teaching methods to develop the vocational training school into a demonstration base for cultivating local talent, driving high-quality development for the company.
